Just before you start your walk on the astounding Gothic Charles Bridge built by the Emperor Charles IV. connecting the Old Town and Lesser Town you can also enjoy the views from the Old Town Bridge Tower (Staroměstská mostecká věž) which is accessible to the public.
Work on the tower's construction began shortly after the foundation stone for Charles Bridge was laid in 1357. The author of the tower, the architect Petr Parléř, also constructed the Charles Bridge on the orders of Emperor Charles IV. The tower was completed in 1380.
The Old Town Bridge Tower was devised as a triumphal arch through which the Kings of Bohemia would march on their coronation procession from the Old Town up to Prague Castle. It was part of the Royal Route.
